Thank you Brian! This message is so relevant right now in the midst of all this craziness. My Bible study group just finished our study of Hell Bent. It has been life changing! Thank you again for your voice!

Here is where we need deep meditation on what the symbolic meaning of the slain Lamb on the throne does to our Lion-worshipping theology. Let us sit with Revelation 5:5-6 and repent of our bloodlust.

I never understood the desire/need for some to make "the end times" happen faster if they were gonna go to heaven eventually anyway. No way do I want to share eternity with the Department of War followers. It's bad enough to share earth with 'em.

I am confused by Mark's statement " I cannot worship a guy that I can beat up"... Isn't the whole point behind the evangelical penal substitution atonement theory that Jesus HAD TO DIE because of your sins? As in, your sins is the reason why "Jesus is beaten up" on the Cross, so to speak, but that is the good news in that framework because now he can go to heaven? Makes no sense...

Also, your inability to worship a guy that chooses peace rather than a sword sounds like a you problem, Mark.

There is just so much wrong with these people’s ideas, it’s crazy.

Here’s the thing about Revelation 19 though. The sword comes out of his mouth. It is his prophecy that slays not any kind of militaristic nonsense.

I appreciate your modeling of accepting the misguided parts of your past & unpacking how/why you have evolved. I think we really need that, especially from us white men, right now.

I’m always struck by how the most violence-obsessed folks are operating almost completely out of a paradigm of fear. They seem to want us to be as scared as they are. Fire & brimstone, gun culture, bigotry.

It all seems bloomed out of the filthy garden of fear. How do we address that in our fellow person? Not necessarily a question to answer, but one I’ve been wrestling with.

And all of this is why the claims, though yet unconfirmed, are quite plausible that military leadership is describing the Iran situation as a holy war. Even if the leadership isn't saying it, there are plenty in the ranks who likely are and I have zero doubt it's being frame that way in Evangelical churches across the country.
