Consider the lilies of the field... this is a passage of the Bible that means so much to me. It has been indelibly etched on my soul.
My father so to is when he introduced me to an anthem by that name. In times of trouble of soul sings it on a whisper only I can hear.
The fires in LA are raging. What to do?
We all need to consider reframing our attitudes and beliefs about our place in this world. We need to make the changes necessary for all of us to survive a climate out of control.
This passage has always been hard for me--both as a climate activist and someone with clinical anxiety. But THIS is a good take. Thanks for offering a new way to read this (and for bringing in some of my favs via Mary, Leonardo, and Sallie).
This is a passage that is important to me. I have a tattoo that says “sufficient” for the translation of 6:34 that says “sufficient for the day is its own trouble”.
The argument you had with God is familiar to me. Rejecting the idea that God (if they do exist) cares specifically about what happens in my life felt like walking away. From them. From this promise.
But maybe it’s just understanding my place as a creature of the world, not owner of it. Thanks for the perspective.
This helped me shed some necessary tears as someone living in a currently snow-covered part of the country. Thanks you for providing us with this cathartic message.
We are but fellow creatures of this earth... Thanks for sharing this Brian. As a Californian this is a balm for my fear and anxiousness.
